Concept

The concept of OptimESM is to bring together high-resolution modelling with unprecedented realism in the representation of key processes and feedbacks in the Earth system, and to develop ESMs so they can be efficiently run in ensemble mode for multi-century simulations.

So far, ESM-development has been largely separated into two streams: one focused on improving process-realism and the other on increasing model resolution, OptimESM will bridge the gap between these two streams, resulting in a new generation of high-resolution Earth system models with unmatched process-realism.
